like the ghost of particle momentum
lost somewhere between space and time
an echo of a scream from another universe
hidden far beyond the cosmos, yet very nearly here
quantum light can leap between home
and a dimension just beyond our perception
manifested in crystal glass mathematics

would a scientist call this joy
let the ashes fall to the ground;
in this wake we will build a stronger Rome,
with a pantheon like upturned palms.
the ocean roars, warns of
a storm to come, and we drag our boats
to the shore, not a second spilled on
idle chatter. let the waves explode,
because we have nothing to lose now
that our angels have fallen and our
demons ascended. God is hiding in
his bomb shelter.
i once built a chariot from the remains
of Dante's coffin, with wheels carved from
limestone desperation, but it could not
carry me further than the next gas station
where you waited to drag me back.
don't let the wings on my shoes
deceive you, i can be devilish, i am

Sad Poem (Written on a Monday)
Inside our house, surrounded
by plants, that soft light—
the weakest shade
of gray and waiting
to turn it all yellow.
I have slept and slept
for days now,
unfolding into small
moments, only to see you
orbiting our mattress,
waiting for some type of
human reaction, any

where I’m a child again,
reeling and afraid that it
will always be this way,
that I will always be in my room,
alone until someone calls me down
for supper, and then a bath,
some prime time television,
and straight to bed.
I am locked outside of something

This Side of the Clouds
there is soil
that will never produce flowers,
rain that chokes
more than it quenches,
and some stones, unsatisfied
with being near-impenetrable,
still opt to wage
slow crystallized war
beating back the plague of man
for we are willful, but empty,
a collected misdirection
that lost so much more
than just its way,
our mineral eyes may be diamonds
but the setting is loose
and their cut has no character
merely fluid, taking the shape
of situation and its spoils
we're dead as an uncelebrated christ
dead like old grain in the silo
vermin crawled, rot riddled
awaiting a further processing
we must so richly deserve,
and a lick of salt and bite of

Congratulations from CRLiterature on your Daily Deviation! We are holding a chat event in CRLiterature on Saturday, June 9 from 11am-1pm Pacific Time to discuss May's batch of Literature DDs and we hope you will be able to join us. Readers will be discussing and reacting to a selection of Literature DDs; we're not sure how many we will have time for, but priority will be given to works whose author is present for the chat. We also encourage you to spread the word to your watchers! Or, if for any reason you prefer that we not include your work in our discussion, just let us know.
